I recently received my bachelor’s degree in computer science. What area should I pursue that would best ensure a secure future in the industry? — CM

Pursuing a career in the federal IT industry will ensure a secure future. The federal IT industry has a pressing need for highly skilled IT professionals, including systems and software engineers, software and database architects, and network engineers. IT professionals who can work as part of integrated project teams will be in high demand. Software development and integration is a critical component of the systems that NASA, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Reconnaissance Office and the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard plan to field. A federal security clearance is a key enabler.

I have had a successful career as a police officer for the past 12 years, but I want to be a software engineer...
